Jsmog on the Air is back! Jsmog on the Air “interprets” the latest News through music, either by Song name, Artisit name, or of course, by songs whose lyrical content relate to the topic of the news. Our first set included songs relating to Balloon Boy, and the last song of the set had to do with Minnesota recently declaring bong water an illegal drug, which is being way more high than Balloon Boy was.
- Highly Suspicious – My Morning Jacket
- Higher Ground (Remix) – Red Hot Chili Peppers
- High & Dry – Radiohead
- Learning to Fly – Pink Floyd
- I’m Free – Soup Dragons
- I Can See For Miles – The Who
- Learning to Fly – Tom Petty
- Burn One Down – Ben Harper
Also recently Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said that “we need to use all the Coal that God has given us“, and it should be noted that Senator Graham is a staunch opponent of legalizing marijuana, which apparently God also gave us too.
In addition to “interpreting the news,” we also like to play some of the new music that has come out lately on Jsmog on the Air, and there are several really great new albums that have been released recently. Unfortunately, for some reason the “music vault” at the station contains none of this new music, so we played some of the older songs from these groups and just talked about how great the new album is and how great it would be if we could actually play some of the new stuff.
- Funkier Than a Mosquito’s Tweeter – Nina Simone
- Voodoo Cowboy – Cat Empire
- My Life in the Garage – Jay-Z
- Even Flow – Pearl Jam
- Drown – Smashing Pumkins
- Forever Young – Rod Stewart
- Business Time – Flight of Conchords
Apparently Jay-Z does a cover of “Forever Young” by Alphaville on his new album, which we had neither of so we played Rod Stewart’s “Forever Young”, which thus ended our set with our comedy tunes that also included the classic “Business Time” by Flight of the Conchords. Needlessly to say, we got in trouble for commenting on the fact that the station had zero of the new music available to play and were told by the station director that despite almost every review out there, “the new Jay-Z album sucks ass anyway”, as far as he’s concerned.
So moving on, we talked about some Alaska issues for our last set of the show. Sarah Palin is back in the news with her new number one best selling, yet to be released book “Going Rogue”, with “Rogue” still being defined as “a deceitful, knavish and unreliable scoundrel” in the dictionary, last time I checked. And the University of Alaska recently stripped Professor Rick Steiner’s NOAA grant because he has been outspoken in his research against the malfeasance of the oil industry’s practices towards environmental protection in this state. That’s what happens when the oil industry is one of the University’s biggest donors. So here was our set:
- Run – Gnarls Barkley
- People of the Sun – Rage Against the Machine
- You Can’t Always Get What You Want – Rolling Stones
- Academia – Sia
- Rose Rouge – St. Germain
- Wind Cries Mary – Jimi Hendrix
- The Wind – PJ Harvey
- The Wind – Cat Stevens
We’ll be back on the air next: 11/9/09 8am-10am KRNN 102.7FM
