Over at Five-Thirty Eight, Nate Silver examined the 39 Democratic House seats that are deemed “most vulnerable” by the Cook Political Report, and found that of that group, 21 members of these Most Vulnerable Dems voted against one- if not all three- of the key pieces of legislation passed by the House that comprises Obama’s agenda: the stimulus package, the climate change cap-and-trade bill, and the recent vote on health care reform.
Conclusion? It may be more of a detriment for Democratic Congressman to not vote like Democrats in the run-up to the mid-term elections. Let’s consider: Republicans are going to be out in full force in 2010, and if the Democrats are going to stem the tide of Congressional losses, they need to assert themselves, grow a pair of balls, and vote like Democrats. Otherwise, its going to be hard to convince Democratic voters in closely contested districts to come out and support a member of Congress who is voting like a Republican. Silver cites data collected from a Research 2000 survey which indicates that 81 percent of Republican voters say they’re “definitely” or “probably” going to vote in the mid-terms, as opposed to 56 percent of Democrats, who must feel content on simply handing over their long-fought control of Congress after just two Congressional sessions.

Have you ever visited one of your favorite progressive blogs- oh, I don’t know, say Huffington Post or Air America, etc.- only to find all of the comments posted in response are left by conservatives douchebags?
‘Who are these people,’ you think to yourself. ‘I thought conservatives always rail against people who don’t work. How can these conservatives possibly have a job and yet post every other comment?’
Well, as it turns out, posting right-wing comments on progressive blogs- aka “being a troll“- is now a professional occupation. Consider Advantage Consultants, who promise to “flood the zone” with comments by paid professionals who are ready to put up your talking points 24/7. Effectively, this pretty much ends the quaint notion of letting the best ideas win out in the “marketplace of ideas.”
Oh how I wish I were making this up. Siiiiighhhh…..

Whilst wasting far too much time surfing the ol’ interweb, I happened across what may be my new favorite political blog. (Though I did cast a vote for Shannyn Moore’s Just a Girl from Homer as the best political blog on the Blogger’s Choice Awards, just to irk Caribou Barbie and Michelle Malkin.) Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to draw attention to Zandar versus the Stupid, which, by accounts, is the efforts by one brave soul- who appears to go by the name “Zander”- to push back against conservative idiocy in all its various forms. With such a mission, the poor guy has his work cut out for him.
I happened across ZvtS with a post that laughably detailed the efforts by some misguided (and since we are discussing conservatives here, I’ll add the descriptive ‘brain-dead’) efforts to draft Dick Cheney in an effort to run as a Republican candidate for President in 2012. I know. Funny, right? The former baby-eating Veep only left office with a 13 percent approval rating. (That’s right, I said thirteen.) Far be it for me to squash such quixotic efforts.

It appears that Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN) wants to postpone the debate and a possible vote on health care reform, to focus on fighting the Afghanistan War. You know, the same war that despite Sen. Lugar calling “terribly important” was all but ignored over the past decade by a Republican administration and a Congress that was controlled by Republicans during much of that span.
So, what’s the political calculus here? Let’s see, health care reform is the cornerstone legislation of Obama’s domestic agenda. Passing health care reform will endear Obama with his base, as it will accomplish a long-sought policy goal of the Democratic Party. The war in Afghanistan, however, is being ramped up and becoming more unpopular with those on the left. Obama has been criticized from his supporters for increasing the Afghanistan war efforts, despite Obama saying on the campaign trail that he’d focus- and end- the war in Afghanistan. So, little surprise that the Republicans- who, after all, are assholes- are going to assert their legislative powers in an attempt for a popular policy goal to be shelved so in exchange for the President to focus on an unpopular policy. Assuming that the Republican assholes succeed, it should be assumed that any decision Obama comes to will be criticized by the Republicans, no matter what. Even if its an all-out military blitz, the Republicans will fault him some how. Why? Because they’re assholes.

GOP says No to Reagan This is too much. OMG! The Republicans are now trying to get Ronald Reagan kicked out of the party by invoking his name even! So frickin hilarious. Not only would Abraham Lincoln have been long booted from the party awhile ago, but now they’re trying to kick their hero, Ronald Reagan out on his ass.
Conservative RNC member James Bopp Jr. is circulating a draft resolution listing 10 positions Republican candidates should support if they wish to have party backing. The resolution calls on the Republican National Committee to end funding and endorsements for any candidate who deviates from three or more of the positions. RNC chairman Michael Steele will now have to choose a side between those who would expand the party ideologically and those more concerned with conservative purity at the next RNC meeting in January.
